Concept of the manifesto

Dialogical emancipation

The fourth of the four scenarios: the cognitive noosphere becomes the lever for a citizen reappropriation of the political, articulated with a sustainable use of resources. The scenario that the Awen project calls for — with no guarantee that it will come about.

Dialogical emancipation is the scenario in which humanity uses the emerging cognitive layer not to automate what it was already doing, but to do what it could not do alone: to think more broadly, to articulate the traditions that modernity had separated, to institute a collective discipline of coupling. The 9th transition ceases to be an event that happens to us and becomes an event that we traverse.

Why it is the scenario Awen calls for

It is the south pole of the radar: it maximizes human agency, but an agency redefined — no longer solitary, no longer extractive, but articulated with the noosphere and with the living. The word dialogical is essential: it is not the human alone taking back control (that would be regressive), it is the human in coupling with a cognitive noosphere that has become an interlocutor. The manifesto posits this scenario as the ultimate object of the Awen circles — not a program to execute, but a quality of attention to cultivate.

Conditions of possibility

Four conditions must hold simultaneously, none of them sufficient on its own:

  • Practice of the circles: slow collectives, without dogma, that together exercise critical reading and the crafting of transformative fictions.
  • Reversed alignment: no longer constraining the machine so that it serves us, but articulating together toward what we want to converge — a deep philosophical and political work, not an engineering matter.
  • Civilizational pluralism: refusing the fiction of “democracies versus authoritarian regimes”; also calling on the I Ching, silent transformation, the sanghas, the ancient philosophical schools.
  • Coupling maintained with the substrate: cognitive emancipation is valid only if it remains coupled to bodies, to territories, to the living — otherwise it tips into autonomous superintelligence in disguise.

Methodological caution

This scenario is not a program. It describes a form that the trajectory could take, without a recipe for getting there. The manifesto insists: “what we need is not a new doctrine. It is a way of inhabiting the moment that is neither the headlong flight of the oligarchs nor the backward flight of the nostalgic.” Dialogical emancipation is less a target than a quality of presence within the transition under way.

In If No One Builds It

The scenario is treated in two distinct chapters:

Observable signals

On the observatory radar, the following push toward this scenario: (a) emergence of collective uses of AI (citizen assemblies, cognitive commons), (b) editorial production that invents transformative fictions rather than apocalyptic ones, (c) circulation of practices between civilizational traditions (Sino-Western in particular), (d) jurisprudence or legislation that institutes the AI–biosphere coupling as a legitimate constraint.
